Box Score 2 FOND DU LAC, Wis. -- Alverno College earned a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference sweep of host Marian University with a pair of one-run wins, 2-1 and 4-3, Sunday afternoon at Smith Field.
Ashlie Rossi's one-out double in the first inning of the opening game gave the Inferno (18-10, 8-6 NACC) a 2-0 lead as Stephanie Skibba and Kristin Holub both scored after reaching base on back-to-back singles.
The trio registered two hits apiece to lead the Alverno offense.
Marian's (9-21, 3-11) Emily Gorges hit a solo home run in the bottom half of the inning to pull the hosts within a run, but neither team scored the rest of the game giving the Inferno the game-one victory.
Erin Dulek (8-5) struck out seven and allowed just three hits in the complete-game win, while Gorges allowed seven Inferno hits in the loss.
Game two began with three Sabre runs scattered over the second, third and fourth innings, but no Marian batters would reach base the final three frames.
Alverno finally tallied a run in the fifth on a double-steal by Olivia Schneider and Sam Kasprzak.
In the sixth, Sarah Brumett reached base on a single up the middle with two outs, and Schneider followed with her first-career homer to even score.
Alexis Botsford led off the seventh with an infield single, and Rossi doubled to plate the leadoff hitter for the final and go-ahead run.
Schneider (9-4) fanned seven batters in the complete-game victory, while Gorges (6-14) was tagged with her second loss of the day after 1.1 innings of relief work.
Schneider and Megan Rossi both had two hits, as Alverno connected for eight in the contest.
Still 12 games remaining in the regular season, the Inferno tied the school record for wins with today's sweep, set when the 2013 squad went 18-18.
A pair of nonconference doubleheaders are up next for Alverno, beginning with a series at Carroll University Tuesday.
