Box Score 2 MILWAUKEE -- Sarah Brumett's two-RBI triple in the seventh inning of the nightcap put the Inferno ahead of visiting Wisconsin Lutheran College as Alverno College swept the visiting Warriors, 9-2 and 4-1, in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader Monday evening at Alverno Field.
Senior right-hander Erin Dulek (4-3) tied her season high with 12 strikeouts and scattered five hits in the game-one victory.
The Inferno's offense tallied 11 hits in the opener, as five batters connected for two hits apiece. Kristin Holub was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Ashlie Rossi was 2-for-5 with a pair batted in. Alexis Botsford and Sam Kasprzak scored three runs each as Alverno (10-6, 2-2 NACC) matched its highest run output of the season with nine.
The Warriors (6-9, 2-2) looked as if they would earn a series split leading 1-0 in entering the top of the seventh, but the Inferno -- who were batting as the visitors, as the game was originally scheduled to be played at WLC -- finally got the bats going again after being shut out the first six innings of the contest.
Ashlie Rossi led off the seventh with a double to left-center field and her sister Megan Rossi reached base on a Warriors' throwing error the next at bat.
Brumett's go-ahead tripled followed, and Mary Kate Sulikowski and Stephanie Skibba knocked in a pair of insurance runs to cap off the four-run inning.
Olivia Schneider allowed a one-out base runner in the bottom of the seventh, but a strikeout and a fly-ball out secured the rookie left-hander's fifth win of the season and the Inferno's first series sweep of the Warriors in 13 doubleheaders.
Alverno heads to Watertown for a nonconference series with Maranatha Baptist University Tuesday at 3 p.m.
