SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- A two-hit shutout and late-inning rally earned visiting Alverno College a doubleheader sweep of host Robert Morris University-Springfield Saturday afternoon at Land of Lincoln Junior Olympic Softball Complex.

Erin Dulek improved to 3-1 with 10 strikeouts in her seventh-career shutout in the circle. The senior right hander walked just one and allowed a hit in each of the first and fourth innings as she won her 27th career game, passing Jessica Goetz on Alverno's all-time wins list for the top spot.

The Inferno (7-3) tagged the Eagles' Abi VanWinkle for 12 hits in the game, but scored just two runs, sufficient enough for the game-one win.

Rookie first baseman Ashlie Rossi was a perfect 4-for-4 on the day, as she scored the game-winning run on an Olivia Schneider double in the fourth and knocked home Alexis Botsford for an insurance run in the seventh.

In the nightcap, the Eagles (2-8) matched their game-one hit total in the bottom of the first inning with a pair including Tara Scott's RBI-double to left field for a 1-0 lead.

Alverno would have some chance early in the game to score, including a bases loaded situation in the second, but didn't get on the board until the top of the seventh.

Sarah Brumett led off the inning with an infield single, advanced to second after a Mary Kate Sulikowski sacrifice bunt, and finally scored as Sam Kasprzak singled up the middle.

Schneider (3-1), who had four Ks in her third win of the season, retired the side and sent the game to extra innings.

With the international-tiebreaker rule in play, Kristin Holub began the eighth on second base. She was knocked to third on a sacrifice bunt by Rossi, and scored the game winner on a passed ball.

Another road doubleheader is up next for the Inferno tomorrow at Eureka College. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
