Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- Alverno College capped off its trip to the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic with a pair of wins Wednesday at the Cape Coral Sports Complex. The Inferno defeated Elms College, 2-0, in the day's opener, and rallied to top New Jersey City University, 9-2.

Senior right-hander Erin Dulek (2-1) entered Wednesday with 299 career strikeouts, and tallied 12 Ks on the day to eclipse the 300 mark.

She allowed just two hits in the contest against the Blazers (1-6) -- one in the first and last innings -- and didn't walk a batter in her sixth-career shutout. The victory also moved Dulek into a tie for most career pitching wins in school history, 25, with Alverno Hall of Famer Jessica Goetz.

After stranding five base runners in the first five innings, the Inferno finally registered a pair of runs in the sixth.

Sarah Brumett hit a single up the middle with the bases loaded to plate Megan Rossi for the go-ahead run, and Mary Kate Sulikowski drew a bases-loaded walk during the next at bat to plate Ashlie Rossi for an insurance run.

Versus the Gothic Knights (1-7) the Inferno trailed 2-0 in the first inning after Ashley Latushko hit a two-run homer.

In the top of the fourth, Alexis Botsford laced a two-out triple down the left-field line to score all three base runners and put the Inferno on top. Four more runs would score in the inning including RBI singles by both Rossi sisters.

Brumett singled in the sixth which plated the final two runs of the game.

Olivia Schneider (2-1) pitched the complete-game win as she allowed just three hits, walked one and struck out three.

Alverno finished the season-opening trip with a 5-3 record, and has a 10-day break until the team's next action. The Inferno travels for a pair of road doubleheaders against Robert Morris University-Springfield and Eureka College March 21 and 22.
