Box Score 2 BELOIT, Wis. -- Alverno College lost a pair of matches the final day of the Buc Blast Tournament hosted by Beloit College.
The University of Wisconsin-Superior defeated the Inferno 3-0 in the day's opening match, and Rockford University won 3-2 in the nightcap.
The Yellowjackets (3-1) slipped past the Inferno in the first set 25-22, took the second 25-17 and again slipped by in the third, 25-22.
Skye Kapinus and Emily Ortner led the Alverno attack with 10 kills apiece in the match, directed by Alyssa Mazur who tallied 26 assists and a pair of service aces.
Dakota Powless tallied a match-high 15 digs, while Ortner added 13 for her first double-double of the season.
Alverno (1-3) was up two sets on the Regents (2-2) with wins of 25-19 and 26-24, but Rockford rallied and took the final three sets 25-16, 25-18 and 15-12.
Ortner led the Inferno with 15 kills and 26 digs for her second double-double of the day. Mazur led the team with four aces, while Meranda Masse had a team-high 23 assists.
Ripon College won the seven-team tournament with a perfect 4-0 record, while the Inferno's 1-3 record tied for fifth place.
Alverno returns to action on Wednesday at Illinois Institute of Technology. First serve is set for 7 p.m. in Chicago.
