ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Visiting Alverno College was on the wrong end of twin bill sweep as the Inferno lost to Dominican University, 6-2 and 9-1, Sunday afternoon at Chicago Bandits Stadium.

In the opener, Alverno gave up a pair of first inning runs to the Stars, but got one back in the top of the third after Alexis Botsford tripled to left-center field and was sent across home plate after Emily Ortner singled to center.

The Stars (15-9, 6-2 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference) tacked on two runs in each of the third and fourth innings for a 6-1 lead, before Ortner scored the final run of the game in the top of the seventh. The sophomore hit her third home run of the season, but it was an inside the park variety, on a sharp shot to right-center field.

Erin Dulek fell to 4-9 on the season allowing six runs and nine hits in 4.0 innings of work, while striking out three. Megan Rossi pitched two scoreless innings of relief with a pair of strikeouts for the Inferno, while Dominique Schneider (5-2) allowed just five hits and one run in 6.0 innings pitched to get the win for the Stars.

In the second game, the Stars scored nine runs on nine hits and three Inferno errors over the first three innings.

Alverno had just three hits in the contest, and the visitors' lone score came in the top of the fourth as Bre Hart plated Ortner on a fielder's choice to center. Ortner reached on a base hit to left field to lead off the inning.

Rossi (2-6) was tagged with the loss allowing five runs (three earned) on four hits in 2.0 innings, while Haley Locher (6-4) earned the five-inning complete game win for the Stars.

Now past the halfway mark of the season, the Inferno (6-15, 1-7 NACC) has four home and four road series remaining. Alverno heads downtown to Milwaukee School of Engineering for a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader on Wednesday.
