Inferno Sweeps Past Regents On Alverno Senior Day

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MILWAUKEE -- The Inferno's two seniors were not going to be denied a victory in the final home doubleheader of their careers. Seniors Bre Hart and Ashleigh Sagat excelled in the batter's box and in the field to lead Alverno College to a series sweep of Rockford College, 7-4 and 9-4, on Senior Day at Alverno Field Monday evening.

The senior duo combined for seven hits, seven RBIs and six runs, Emily Ortner added five hits, three RBIs and four runs, while Megan Rossi had three hits and a pair of RBIs in the Inferno's first sweep versus a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opponent this season.

Erin Dulek (7-13) allowed seven hits and had five strikeouts in the game-one victory, while Rossi (4-9) allowed eight hits and a strikeout in the game-two win where just three of the four runs were earned.

In the opener, the Regents (8-22, 4-14 NACC) put up three runs in the first two innings before Alexis Botsford doubled to left field to score Sam Kasprzak and put the Inferno (11-22, 6-12) on the board.

Ortner tied the game with her fifth home run of the season, also scoring Raquel Starke who reached on a leadoff single to center field in the bottom of the fourth.

Two innings later, Ortner plated Kasprzak on a base hit in the bottom of the sixth to put the Inferno ahead and load the bases. Sagat then connected for one of her three doubles of the day to clear the bases and put the Inferno ahead, 7-3.

The Regents scored in the top of the seventh on back-to-back two-out hits to round out the scoring.

In the nightcap, the Inferno scored three first-inning runs for a 3-1 lead. Kristin Holub doubled to score Ortner, and Hart knocked home Holub and Sagat with a double of her own on the next at bat.

Rockford tied things up in the third, but RBI-singles by Hart and Kirsten Edmunds put the Inferno in front for good.

Sagat and Rossi both connected for RBI-singles in the fourth, while Rossi and Jillian Batty did the same in the sixth to cap off the Inferno's 25-hit day at the plate.

Defensively, Sagat, the Inferno's center fielder, made a spectacular diving catch at the warning track to end the Regent's fifth inning with a runner on base.

Alverno hits the road for its final two series of the season, at Aurora University Friday and at Benedictine University Saturday.
