WAUKESHA, Wis. -- Host Carroll University swept Alverno College, 4-3 and 4-2, in a nonconference doubleheader at Kilgour Field. The series was originally scheduled to be played at Alverno Field, but overnight weather made the Inferno's home site unplayable.

The Pioneers (7-17) scored a pair of runs in the top of the second and third innings before the Inferno (7-20) answered with a run on a Pioneer error in the bottom of the third, and tacked on a pair of runs in the fourth on back-to-back RBI hits by Emily Ortner and Ashleigh Sagat.

The Inferno lead would be short-lived however, as the Pioneers scored two in the top of the sixth to regain the lead, including the go-ahead score on a sacrifice fly to center field.

Erin Dulek (5-12) went the distance for the Inferno as she struck out four and allowed four runs (three earned) in the loss, while Natalie Ruechel (2-11) earned the win with four strikeouts, five walks and two earned runs.

In the nightcap, Carroll scored three runs on five hits in the third and maintained the lead despite the Inferno's two-run fourth where the visitors had the bases loaded to end the inning.

Ortner knocked in the Inferno's first score on a double, followed be an RBI-single by Sagat with no outs.

The Pioneers added an insurance run in the sixth on a pair of Alverno errors.

In the seventh, the Inferno's first three batters reached base as Sam Kasprzak had a leadoff walk, followed by consecutive base hits by Raquel Starke and Bre Hart. Yet the loaded bases were again left that way to end the inning.

Megan Rossi (2-8) pitched the full seven innings in the loss allowing four runs (three earned) with a pair of Ks, while Amanda Desotell (5-5) earned the win in a scoreless 3.1 innings of relief work.

With the non-league portion of the Inferno's schedule complete, Alverno has just five Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheaders remaining on its schedule, including tomorrow's 3:30 p.m. series versus Marian University at Alverno Field.
