Box Score 2 MILWAUKEE -- Alverno College scored five runs in each game of a doubleheader with Lakeland College and earned a series split with a 5-1 victory in the opener and a 7-5 loss in the nightcap Saturday at Alverno Field.
After being limited to just three hits on Wednesday, the Inferno bats connected for seven hits in game one.
Ashleigh Sagat got the Inferno on the scoreboard in the first inning with an RBI-double down the left-field line before the Muskies answered three innings later after an errant throw allowed a game-tying run. It was Sagat's 100th-career RBI, as she became just the second player in Alverno history to reach the milestone.
In the bottom of the fifth, Raquel Starke single to center field to score Laeren Yates for the go-ahead run.
The Inferno added three insurance runs in the sixth after a Muskie error allowed Sagat to score and Alexis Botsford knocked in a pair on a base hit to left-center field.
Erin Dulek struck out the final two batters for nine Ks in the game as she allowed just two hits and the unearned run in the complete-game victory.
The Muskies' Jasmine Suarez struck out eight and was tagged with the loss.
Sagat and Kirsten Edmunds each recorded a pair of hits with 2-for-3 performances at the plate as the duo combined for three doubles, two by Sagat.
In game two the Inferno kept the bats going as Emily Ortner hit her fourth home run of the season, a three-run shot to left-center field in the bottom of the first.
Lakeland scored a run in the second before back-to-back hits by Sagat and Kristin Holub tacked on one for the Inferno.
The Muskies (11-5, 3-9 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference) scored two more in the fourth, which cut the lead to 4-3, but an RBI single by Megan Rossi plated Ortner for the Inferno's fifth run of the game in the fifth inning.
However, the visitors responded with four runs on seven hits over the final two innings for the come-from-behind win.
Both game-one starters entered in relief and earned the game-two decisions--Dulek (5-11) allowed four runs (one earned) on eight hits in 4.0 innings, while Suarez (6-7) allowed just two hits in 2.1 scoreless innings.
Sagat earned her second two-hit game of the day, while Ortner was 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of runs scored.
Alverno (7-18, 2-10 NACC) returns to the diamond for another home doubleheader versus Marian University tomorrow at 12 p.m.
