Inferno Swept By Falcons To Open NACC Play

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MEQUON, Wis. -- Visiting Alverno College was swept by Concordia University Wisconsin in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opening doubleheader for both teams. The host Falcons took game one, 9-2, and game two, 9-3.

The Falcons (8-8, 2-0 NACC) plated four runs in the bottom of the second inning off three hits and an Inferno error in the opener. Alverno (3-8, 0-2) got on the board in the top of the fourth as Ashleigh Sagat reached on a double and later scored on a Falcon miscue.

A two-run homer by Alyssa Robison in the fifth extended the Falcons' lead to 6-1, before an RBI-single by Bre Hart plated Sagat for the second time in the game in the top of the sixth.

Three more Falcon runs were the game's final tallies scored on three hits and two Inferno errors.

Erin Dulek (2-5) went the distance and was tagged with the loss in the circle for the Inferno, while Melissa Perkins (3-3) picked up the win for the Falcons in six innings pitched.

Kirsten Edmunds joined Sagat with a multi-hit game of her own, going 2-for-2 at the plate for Alverno.

The Inferno struck first in the second game as Emily Ortner reached base on a two-out double to left field and was knocked home by a Sagat single to center field in the top of the first.

However, the Falcons responded with three runs in the bottom half after a pair of Inferno errors and Mariah Giesseman hit the first of her two home runs in the game.

Sam Kasprzak pushed across the Inferno's second score of the contest in the second inning as Megan Rossi circled the bases after a leadoff single to left to trim the Falcons' lead to a single run.

Yet again the Falcons responded as Concordia added six more runs over the third and fifth innings, while the Inferno plated a single tally in the top of the seventh. Alexis Botsford crushed a two-out double to center field and then scored on consecutive errant pitches.

Rossi (1-3) pitched 4.2 innings in the loss, while Jamie Schuh (2-1) earned the victory by striking out seven Inferno batters.

Although Alverno had 12 hits in the twin bill, the visitors stranded 13 base runners and committed six errors.

Alverno hosts Wisconsin Lutheran College tomorrow in its home opener at Alverno Field. The doubleheader is set for a 12 p.m. first pitch.
