Box Score 2 FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Alverno College managed just three hits and committed eight errors in a pair of losses at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic on Sunday.
The Inferno (1-3) lost 12-0 to Franklin College in five innings of play before dropping the nightcap 2-1 to Wilmington College of Ohio.
In the top of the first inning against the Grizzlies (3-0), the Inferno committed three errors that led to five Franklin runs.
Franklin added three more in the second, and another error led to and additional four in the top of the fifth.
Three Grizzlies combined for the no-hit bid versus Alverno. Kristin Holub and Raquel Starke were the only two Inferno players to reach base safely, each recording a walk.
Versus Wilmington, Alverno struck first as Holub would knock home Ashleigh Sagat in the top of the fourth after the senior outfielder smashed a triple to the right-field fence.
The Quakers (1-1) would tie things up in the bottom half of the inning with two hits and a sacrifice hit in the first three at bats, and the Inferno's third error of the game allowed the go ahead run to score just two batters later.
The Inferno had its chances to get the errant run back, but Starke was stranded at third base after a leadoff walk in the fifth, while Sagat and Emily Ortner were left on second and third base in the sixth.
Erin Dulek (1-2) was tagged for both losses in the circle. The junior threw seven strikeouts in 8.0 innings, but recorded a complete game against the Quakers.
Megan Rossi allowed four runs in 3.0 innings of relief work versus the Grizzlies, but all four were unearned.
The Inferno continues play tomorrow at the Cusic Classic with games against Northland College at 9 a.m. ET and Newbury College at 11 a.m.
