MADISON, Wis. -- Alverno College lost to host Edgewood College, 3-0, Friday night in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match as the host Eagles outhit the Inferno 48 kills to 19.

The Inferno (9-11, 0-4 NACC) led by as many as five in the opening set, but the Eagles (11-10, 2-1) rallied after a 19-19 tie and powered past the Inferno for the 25-20 win.

The defending NACC champion Eagles led the entire second frame and went up two sets to none with a 25-12 victory.

A tight back-and-forth third set went the way of the Eagles, 25-17, after five-straight Eagle points broke a 13-13 tie.

Freshmen Jessica Wewers and Melissa Weyand led the Inferno with five kills apiece, Cali Trepp had a match-best two service aces, while Danielle Schilawski led the defense with nine digs.

Alverno continues its three-match road swing tomorrow morning as it heads up to Marian University for an 11 a.m. contest.
