Inferno Closes Out Play At Midwest Crossroads College Challenge

HOBART, Ind. -- The Midwest Crossroads College Challenge closed out play this afternoon, and Alverno College was swept in its tournament-closing matches.

Robert Morris University-Chicago (2-1) defeated the Inferno (0-4) in this morning's match, while Indiana University East (10-1) downed the Inferno this afternoon.

The RMU-Chicago Eagles pounded out 35 kills, compared to the Inferno's 21, and took the morning match in three sets -- 25-14, 26-24, 25-14.

Rookie libero Danielle Schilawski led Alverno with 20 digs, one of three Inferno players in double-digits, as Emily Ortner and Cali Trepp added 12 and 11.

Ortner and Trepp led the attack with eight kills apiece, while Mariah Arterberry added a pair of aces and setter Meranda Masse had 12 assists.

Although a slimmer 30-21 disadvantage in kills for the Inferno in the afternoon match, the Red Wolves handed the Inferno a 25-14, 25-9, 25-14 loss.

Trepp paced the Inferno with a team-high nine kills, while Schilawski had a team-best eight digs. Masse directed the attack with 14 assists.

For its next action, Alverno heads to Beloit College for a triangular on Saturday versus Mount Mary University at 1 p.m., followed by a match with the host Bucs at 3.
