Box Score 2 MILWAUKEE -- Visiting Lakeland College spoiled host Alverno College's home-opening series and swept the Inferno, 6-4 and 8-0, in a Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader at Alverno Field.
Alverno got an early 1-0 lead in game one as a Megan Rossi sacrifice fly scored Stef Wilmore, who reached base on a leadoff double to being the bottom of the second inning.
The Muskies (6-9, 2-0 NAC) tied the game as Heather Haeflinger led off the top of the fourth with her first of three home runs on the day.
Wilmore's second double of the game plated Erika Wotnoske to put Alverno (7-5, 1-3) back in front in the bottom half of the fourth, but the Muskies responded with a four-run fifth after a pair of Inferno errors.
The Inferno scored once in the fifth and once in the seventh, but was unable to catch back up to the Muskies.
Both pitchers went the full seven innings, as Jamie Villalobos (5-4) picked up the loss, but just two of the six runs given up were earned, while Erin Henk (3-4) received the victory for Lakeland.
In the nightcap, the Muskies took advantage of four more Inferno errors and jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the third. The visitors added four more runs as Haeflinger connected for a grand slam in the fourth, while the Inferno managed just four hits in the game and couldn't get things going offensively.
Melissa Noll (2-5) pitched four innings and got the victory for Lakeland, while Rossi (0-1) went the full five innings and struck out four in her first complete-game and decision of the season.
Alverno has the day off tomorrow before another conference doubleheader on Saturday versus Edgewood College. Saturday's series, which was originally scheduled to be played at Edgewood, has been moved to Alverno due to field conditions. First pitch is at 12 p.m. at Alverno Field.
