Box Score 2 MILWAUKEE -- Alverno College had no trouble with visiting Mount Mary College and swept the crosstown foe, 25-2 and 13-3, in a nonconference doubleheader Monday afternoon. Both games finished in just five innings due to the eight-run rule.
The Inferno (12-8) reached base 30 times in the opening game on 11 hits, 16 walks and three hit-by-pitches led by Jamie Villalobos' 4-for-5 performance at the plate which included four RBIs and a pair of doubles.
Stef Wilmore's grand slam highlighted Alverno's 23-run fourth inning, which broke the former school record of 18 runs in a single inning set back in 2003, also against the Blue Angels (0-6). Wilmore became Alverno's all-time RBI leader with a game-high five batted in, and walked three times to tie Erika Wotnoske with the game-high honors.
Villalobos improved to 6-5 with the complete-game victory, as she scattered five hits and bested her career-high by three with 10 strikeouts, while Mount Mary's Katie Edwards (0-3) was tabbed with the loss after three innings of work.
In the nightcap, Alverno took a commanding 8-0 lead after one inning of play and scored in each of the bottom halves of the innings on 10 hits and 11 walks.
Emily Ortner and Megan Rossi connected for a game-high three hits apiece, including Rossi's solo home run in the third to extend her reached-base streak to 18 games.
Wilmore extended her current school-record hitting streak to 18 games on a leadoff double earlier in the inning.
Rossi (4-3) went the distance in the pitchers circle, and followed suit with Villalobos as she fanned a career-high five batters in the victory.
Dani Christian (0-1) picked up the complete-game loss for the Blue Angels.
Alverno returns to action on Wednesday with a Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader at Aurora University at 3 p.m.
