Muskies Outmatch Inferno In Last Road Match Of Season

Box Score

PLYMOUTH, Wis. -- Host Lakeland College outmatched Alverno College on Wednesday evening and took the contest in straight sets in the Inferno's final road match of the season.

The Muskies (19-11, 8-2 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference) held a 37-22 advantage on kills, controlled attack percentage .250 to .040, and served up an 8-1 edge on aces.

After losing the first and second sets 25-8 and 25-12, the Inferno (11-13, 1-9 NACC) didn't go down without swinging in the third.

The Inferno led 24-21 and looked as though it would send the match to a fourth set, but after a Lakeland kill and an Alverno attack error, the Muskies served a pair of back-to-back aces to take a 25-24 lead.

The Muskies committed an attack error of their own to tie up the set at 25 apiece, but would finish off the match with a kill and a block for the 27-25 final.

Emily Ortner earned match-high honors in both kills and digs with eight and 14, while teammate Cali Trepp chipped in six kills and nine digs for Alverno.

The Inferno closes out the season on Saturday as it hosts Concordia University Chicago at 6 p.m. in Reiman Gymnasium.
