Box Score MILWAUKEE -- The visiting Benedictine University Eagles led the entire match and defeated host Alverno College, 3-0, tonight in Reiman Gymnasium.
It was the Northern Athletics Conference opener for both teams. The Eagles improved to 9-0 overall, while the Inferno dropped to 1-8.
Benedictine jumped out to a 6-0 lead in both the first and second sets, and was up 4-0 in the third as it won each set, 25-13, 25-13 and 25-17.
The Inferno couldn't get in rhythm and committed 17 attack errors to just 15 kills, and also committed 11 service errors on the night.
Chelsea Gulbronson (Milwaukee/Pius XI) and Emma Ortner (Tigerton, Wis.) each tilled five kills to lead the Inferno attack, while Daryl Sigh (Milwaukee/Whitefish Bay) added four.
Gulbronson didn't commit an error in her eight attempts for an impressive .625 attack percentage.
Defensively Ortner had a match-high 14 digs.
Alverno returns to the court on Friday and Saturday as it hosts the Alverno Classic. The Inferno opens up play against Beloit College at 1 p.m.
