Wotnoske Hits Walk-Off Winner Over Warriors

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MILWAUKEE -- Erika Wotnoske (Greenfield, Wis.) singled to right-center field in the bottom of the seventh inning and scored a pair of base runners for a 6-5 Alverno College victory over visiting Wisconsin Lutheran College this afternoon at Alverno Field.

Wisconsin Lutheran defeated Alverno in the opening game of the Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader, 4-1, prior to Wotnoske's walk-off heroics.

The Inferno trailed by a run and was down to its last out when Wotnoske came up to bat with the bases loaded. The junior outfielder connected on a 2-1 pitch and sent it over the second baseman's out-stretched arm to plate Bre Hart (Racine, Wis./Park) and Chelsea Gulbronson (Milwaukee/Pius XI) for the game-tying and game-winning runs.

It was Wotnoske's third hit of the game and sixth-straight game with a hit. She finished the game 3-for-4 with a run scored the pair of RBIs.

Hart reached on a fielder's choice after a Jamie Villalobos (Antioch, Ill.) single, followed by a Gulbronson walk. Stef Wilmore (Elkhart, Ind./Central) then loaded the bases after being hit by pitch on a 2-2 count.

Earlier, the Warriors took the lead on a five-run second inning, which took advantage of six hits and an Alverno error that extended the inning. Just one of the five runs surrendered was earned by left-hander Villalobos (6-6), who picked up the complete-game victory with the come-from-behind win.

In the fourth inning Erin Dulek (Rosholt, Wis.) hit her fifth double of the season to score two runs. The Inferno scored on a double-steal by Lauren Colette (Antioch, Ill.) and Wilmore for its first run of the sixth inning, followed with an RBI by Roxanne Kresmer (South Milwaukee, Wis.), which pulled the Inferno within one run, 5-4.

In the opening game the Warriors (11-19, 5-11 NAC) took advantage of four Alverno errors and scored a pair of runs in each of the second and sixth innings. Dulek (7-11) recorded eight strikeouts for Alverno in the pitcher's circle, but was tagged with the loss as she scatted five hits, two walks and four unearned runs over seven-complete innings.

The Inferno outhit the Warriors 6-5 in the opener, but left six runners on base in the contest. Dulek tried her best to help her own cause with a 2-for-2 performance in the batter's box, and Megan Rossi (Hammond, Ind./Morton) plated Wotnoske for the Inferno's only run on a sacrifice fly to left field in the second inning, but the Inferno offense wasn't able to string any hits together.

The Warriors' Katie Timm (4-10) pitched both games, and picked up the first-game win and second-game loss with six strikeouts and four earned runs on the day.

The Inferno (14-18, 7-11 NAC) travels to Rockford College on Wednesday for its next action. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. in Rockford, Ill.
