Box Score 2 LISLE, Ill. -- Visiting Alverno College lost both games of a Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader to two-time defending conference champion Benedictine University this afternoon by scores of 7-1 and 9-0.
In the opener Lauren Colette (Antioch, Ill.) put the Inferno (11-15, 6-8 NAC) out in front with a RBI-double to the left-field fence in top of the second. Colette, who had two of the Inferno's four hits in the contest, plated Erika Wotnoske (Greenfield, Wis.) for the 1-0 lead.
But the Eagles (19-8, 11-1 NAC) promptly answered with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 2-1 lead which they would not relinquish.
Alverno threatened in the third after Jamie Villalobos (Antioch, Ill.) was pushed to second base on a sac bunt after a single to left field, but she would be one of three runners left on base in the final innings.
Stef Wilmore (Elkhart, Ind./Central) reached on a double in the fourth, but was tagged out a close call at home plate later in the inning.
The host Eagles scattered five runs over the final four innings for the 7-1 final.
Villalobos (3-5), the junior lefty, picked up the loss, but struck out five and walked just one as she pitched a complete game.
Benedictine used an eight-run third inning to end the Inferno's hopes in game two.
Colette, Villalobos and Wilmore accounted for the only Inferno hits of the game -- again -- as Colette bagged her first triple of the season on a deep hit to right-center field in the top of the second.
Erin Dulek (Rosholt, Wis.) picked up the loss after she pitched just two innings and allowed a run. The rookie right-hander (7-9) pitched a pair of complete-game victories Friday night.
Alverno will face Mount Mary College in a nonconference doubleheader next Wednesday at Alverno Field. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
