Inferno lets leads slip away, swept in road match

PLYMOUTH, Wis. -- Alverno lost a Northern Athletics Conference match to host Lakeland, 3-0, tonight by scores of 25-21, 25-22 and 25-20.

In the first set the Inferno (2-11, 0-2 NAC) got off to a good start and a quick 5-0 lead, but the Muskies (3-11, 1-1) battled back to overcome a 20-17 deficit for the 25-21 victory.

The Inferno again led in the second set, 16-12, but couldn't hang on and lost 25-22.

In the final set, it was back and forth, as neither team led by more than a point up to a 17-17 tie, but the host Muskies outscored the Inferno 8-3 in the final 11 points for the 25-20 victory.

Linda Vang (Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln) led the Inferno with a match-high 11 kills via a .292 attack percentage, and Morgan Stuckey (Duncanville, Texas) added seven kills.

Defensively, Shelby Metzger (Montreal, Mo./Camdenton) and Stuckey each had a match-high 12 digs.

Metzger also added 19 assists for her fourth double-double of the season.

Alverno travels to Decorah, Iowa, for the Luther College Tournament this weekend, before returning to conference play at Dominican next Tuesday.
