Inferno falls to Macalester, Luther at St. Kate's Invite

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Alverno lost its final two matches at the St. Kate's Invite today, falling to both Macalester and Luther, 3-0.

The Inferno (2-6 overall) kept things close in all three sets versus Macalester (1-6), but lost by scores of 25-22, 25-19, and 25-23, as the Inferno's miscues on serve receive, were the main difference in the match. Macalester recorded eight aces over the three sets, while the Inferno had just two.

Inferno freshman Shelby Metzger (Montreal, Mo./Camdenton) recorded her third double-double of the season with 14 assists and 11 digs, while Reagan Owen (Salina, Kan./Central) had a match-high 22 digs to lead the Inferno defense.

Versus Luther (5-3), the Inferno lost another close set and dropped the opening frame 25-23, before losing the second and third 25-13 and 25-15.

Owen again had a match-high 22 digs, while Metzger recorded 13 assists directing the offense.

The Inferno return to the court next Tuesday and open up Northern Athletics Conference play at Benedictine. The match has been moved to a 7:30 p.m. start time and to Elmhurst College, due to flooding on the BenU campus.
