Box Score 2 MILWAUKEE -- Alverno College left-hander Jamie Villalbos (Antioch, Ill.) pitched a two-hit shutout in a 12-0, five-inning victory over visiting Maranatha Baptist Bible College today at Alverno Field, but the host Inferno dropped game two 7-5 to split the Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader.
Villalobos (3-7) allowed a hit in just the first and last innings to record her first career shutout, the 13th by an Alverno pitcher. She recorded four strikeouts and just walked one batter in the win.
The Inferno (5-13, 2-4 NAC) bats had nine hits to go along with the 12 runs, led by Villalobos and Stef Wilmore (Elkhart, Ind./Central) who each recorded two hits and three RBIs in the opening game. Villalobos recorded her first career triple with a shot to right field in the second, while Wilmore had her fourth double of the season.
In game two the Inferno led 5-4 after three innings, but the Crusaders (4-12, 1-7 NAC) took advantage of their 12 hits in the game and tagged three runs over the next two innings, and shut out the Inferno the final four for the 7-5 victory. The win snapped Maranatha's 66-game losing streak in conference play, with the team's last NAC victory coming in April of 2008, a 10-9 victory over Dominican University.
Stephanie Klees (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton) picked up the loss for the Inferno, allowing six runs (3 earned) and struck out five in four innings of work.
Wilmore hit her second home run of the season in the second, while freshman outfielder Ashleigh Sagat (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) hit her first career long ball in the third inning. Sagat extended her reached-base streak to 13 games.
The Inferno get back to action on Saturday as they host defending NAC champion Benedictine University at noon in a doubleheader.
