Box Score 2 AURORA, Ill. -- Alverno College was overpowered in a doubleheader sweep by host Aurora University at Stuart Sports Complex this afternoon. The host Spartans outhit the Inferno 24-13 in the twin bill for 14-6 and 8-0 victories. The Inferno stranded nine runners and gave up four home runs in the game one loss.
The Spartans (11-5, 4-0 Northern Athletics Conference) took an early 7-1 lead after 2 innings to chase Alverno starter Stephanie Klees (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton) from the pitching circle, but the Inferno (4-10, 1-3 NAC) added four runs in the third inning and another in the fifth to cut the deficit to a single run.
Aurora added a run in the bottom of the fifth and then six off three homers in the sixth to end the game on the eight-run rule.
In game two the Spartan offense took advantage of three Inferno errors, while the Inferno bats mustered only three hits. Emily Snell (Denmark, Wis.) picked up the loss for Alverno, though only four of the eight runs allowed were earned.
Ashleigh Sagat (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) and Jamie Villalobos (Antioch, Ill.) both hit successfully in each game for the Inferno. Sagat was 3-for-6 with a pair of RBIs on the afternoon, while Villalobos was 2-for-5 with two runs and a walk.
Alverno returns home tomorrow to host Lawrence University in a nonconference doubleheader at 3 p.m. for its third series in 3 days.
