VERONA, Wis. -- Alverno College defeated host Edgewood College 9-7 in game two of a doubleheader at Ceniti Park for the Inferno's first-ever victory over the Eagles. Edgewood won the opening game 7-5.

The Inferno (10-26, 7-15 Northern Athletics Conference) began playing the Eagles (12-20, 7-11 NAC) in the 2002 season and this afternoon on the 18th try, finally broke the streak.

Starter Stephanie Klees (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton) surrendered four runs in the opening inning of game two, but the Inferno came back and scored nine runs over the next five innings, sparked by a pair of home runs by rookies Kellee Laske (Milwaukee/Pius) and Ashleigh Sagat (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower).

Klees (2-7) was relieved with two outs in the fifth, after she surrendered two runs, by left-hander Jamie Villalobos (Antioch, Ill.). Villalobos allowed just a hit and a run in the final 2 1/3 innings to record her first-career save.

Along with Laske and Sagat, Bre Hart (Racine, Wis./Park) and Natalie Petrie (Franklin, Wis.) all had two hits in the win.

The Inferno looked to have control of game one after Stef Wilmore's (Elkhart, Ind./Central) solo home run to left field gave Alverno a 5-1 lead. But an error extended the fourth inning for the Eagles who scored six runs (four unearned) off of starter Emily Snell (Denmark, Wis.), who picked up the loss.

Wilmore's homer was her fourth of the season, which set the new single-season home run record at Alverno; previously set by Melissa Bankenbush with three in 2008. The sophomore catcher is now just two behind all-time leader and hall of famer Lindsey Terzis (2005) who hit 7 in her career.

The three blasts by the Inferno today adds to their team's single-season school record, now at 13, with four games remaining in the regular season.

Wilmore, Villalobos and Erika Wotnoske (Greenfield, Wis.) all had a pair of hits in the opening game, while Laske had a pair of RBIs.

The Inferno finish up conference play on Sunday at Marian University in a doubleheader in Fond du Lac, and then close out the regular season at home on Tuesday in a nonconference doubleheader versus Mt. Mary College.
