MILWAUKEE -- Alverno College used a nine-run sixth inning in the opening game of a doubleheader with visiting Rockford College to come away with a 12-6 victory, earning a Northern Athletics Conference split on 'Senior Day' at Alverno Field. The Inferno (8-24, 5-13 NAC) lost game two 10-7 to the Regents (10-22, 6-12).

In game one Alverno left-hander Jamie Villalobos (Antioch, Ill.) gave up five runs in the first inning and one in the second, but shut out the Regents the final five frames to earn her fifth victory of the season as she struck out six and walked just one.

Ashleigh Sagat (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) put the Inferno on the board with a three-run homer to right center in the third, her second home run of the year.

The Inferno were blanked in the next two innings, but tagged a pair of Regent pitchers for nine runs in the bottom of the sixth for the 12-6 lead. Alverno managed only four hits in the inning, but took advantage of three walks and two batters were hit by pitch for five of the base runners.

Emily Snell (Denmark, Wis.) hit 3-for-4 with three RBIs while Roxanne Kresmer (South Milwaukee, Wis.) was 2-for-3 with a walk and a RBI to lead the Inferno offense. In addition to Sagat's three-run blast, the rookie walked three times.

In game two the Inferno scored first as a Stef Wilmore (Elkhart, Ind./Central) singled up the middle to send home Villalobos in the first inning. The Regents would come back, however, in the next inning with five runs to take the 5-1 lead.

Snell would try to help her own cause as the right-hander hit a solo home run in the second for her second homer of the season, but the Regents would chase the Inferno starter in the fifth after allowing another run.

A pair of doubles by Villalobos and Sagat and singles by Chelsea Gulbronson (Milwaukee/Pius) and Wilmore in the bottom of the fifth would tie the game at 6-6, but the Regents scored a pair of runs in both the sixth and seventh innings on reliever Stephanie Klees (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton) for the four-run cushion.

Wilmore had an RBI-double in the seventh, but that would be all the Inferno would get for the 10-7 final.

Gulbronson and Wilmore each batted 3-for-4 in game two while Villalobos was 2-for-4 in the closing game.

The Inferno close out their home portion of the schedule on Wednesday in a NAC doubleheader with Lakeland College at 3 p.m.
