WAUWATOSA, Wis. -- Alverno College was swept by host Wisconsin Lutheran College today in a Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader as the Inferno were outscored a combined 11-0 in the two first innings.

The Inferno (5-19, 2 -8 NAC) managed only a single hit in the game one 8-0 defeat, but fought back in game two and lost 7-6 in extra innings to the host Warriors (8-16, 5-9 NAC).

Freshman Kellee Laske (Milwaukee/Pius XI) lined a single in the top of the second inning after a Stef Wilmore (Elkhart, Ind./Central) walk, but both runners were left on base in the Inferno's only scoring threat of the game.

Right-hander Emily Snell (Denmark, Wis.) picked up the loss for Alverno, allowing the six first-inning runs, yet only two earned. She allowed only one hit in the inning, but walked four Warrior batters.

In the second game the Warriors jumped out to an early lead after the first inning, and added a run in the bottom of the third to make it 6-0.

But the Inferno fought back scoring six runs over the next three innings to tie it up at 6-6, and after a scoreless seventh sent the game into extra innings. Alverno was unable to connect for a hit in the eighth and ninth, while WLC strung together a pair of hits for the walk-off win in the bottom of the ninth.

Laske again led the Inferno offense, which connected for 12 hits, with a 3-of-5 performance including a pair of runs, while Wilmore and Ashleigh Sagat (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) both added two hits apiece. Erika Wotnoske (Greenfield, Wis.) had two RBIs in a 1-for-3 performance at the plate.

Southpaw Jamie Villalobos (Antioch, Ill.) pitched the entire 8 2/3 innings for Alverno as she struck out four and walked only one.

Alverno returns to the field on Tuesday as it hosts Dominican University in a NAC doubleheader at 3 p.m.
