Inferno unable to prevail over errors in loss to Sabres

MILWAUKEE -- The Alverno volleyball team wasn't able to overcome 12 service errors and 13 serve-receive errors in a 3-1 loss to visiting Marian tonight in Reiman Gymnasium.

The Inferno (3-18, 0-6 Northern Athletics Conference) trailed 23-21, but came back and won the opening set 25-23.

In the second set the roles were reversed as the Inferno led 23-21, but the Sabres (6-15, 3-3) fought back and took the set 26-24 in extra points to event the match at 1-1.

Alverno wasn't able to fight back after that, as the Sabres won the final two sets 25-11 and 25-15 for the four-set victory.

Rookie Cali Trepp (Iron Mountain, Mich./Niagara) led the Inferno's offense with a match-high 10 kills, while Linda Vang (Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln) added nine and Morgan Stuckey (Duncanville, Texas) seven. Chelsea Gulbronson (Milwaukee/Pius XI) added four kills on 12 attempts for a team-best .250 attack percentage.

Reagan Owen (Salina, Kan./Central) recorded a match-best 23 digs and Shelby Metzger (Montreal, Mo./Camdenton) added 11 for the Inferno.

Metzger, a freshman setter, had a career-high 30 assists to record her eighth double-double of the season.

Alverno hits the court again this Friday at Concordia Wisconsin for another NAC match.
