Inferno drops 2 at WLC Invite

MILWAUKEE -- Alverno College lost its season-opening matches at the WLC Invite to Indiana University Northwest and University of Dubuque by scores of 3-2 and 3-0 on Friday at the Recreation Complex.

The Inferno (0-2) dropped the first two sets to Indiana Northwest by scores of 25-21 and 25-16 before evening up the match with a pair of set victories, 25-16 and 25-21. They couldn't make it three-straight, however, losing the deciding set 15-9.

Freshmen Morgan Stuckey (Duncanville, Texas) and Kellee Laske (Milwaukee/Pius XI) led Alverno on both sides of the net, each recording their first collegiate double-doubles. Stuckey had 11 kills and 14 digs and Laske had 10 kills and 12 digs.

Junior Ashley Graham (Cudahy, Wis.) had a team-high 19 assists for the Inferno.

Dubuque overpowered the Inferno in the second match, winning by scores of 25-8, 25-10 and 25-6.

Stuckey and Laske again led Alverno on defense with 10 and 12 digs.

Alverno plays two more matches in the WLC Invite today versus Carroll University at 12 p.m. and host Wisconsin Lutheran College at 2 p.m.
