Muskies drop Inferno in NAC opener

Box Score

MILWAUKEE -- Alverno College lost its 2010 Northern Athletics Conference opener to the visiting Muskies of Lakeland College 3-0 tonight at Reiman Gymnasium in Milwaukee.

The defending NAC co-champion Lakeland won just its first match of the year in the NAC-opener to put its season record at 1-7 overall, and 1-0 in NAC play, while the host Inferno drop to 0-7 overall and 0-1 in the NAC.

In the first set the Muskies took a commanding 11-3 lead, but the Inferno battled back to cut the score to four at 15-11 on an attack error by the visitors. However Lakeland would end the set on a 10-4 run for the 25-15 set one victory.

After trailing 7-1 in the second set, the Inferno would close the gap to three at 8-5 on a kill by Kellee Laske (Milwaukee/Pius XI), but seven-straight Muskie points would put the lead back to double-digits and the eventual 25-13 win.

The third and final set of the match didn't fare much better for Alverno and Lakeland took it 25-15 for the match victory.

Defensively the Inferno were led by Morgan Stuckey (Duncanville, Texas) with 10 digs, while Chelsea Gulbronson (Milwaukee/Pius XI) added eight.

The Inferno take on the second of three defending NAC co-champions, Dominican University, on Thursday at 7 p.m. in Reiman Gymnasium.
