Box Score MILWAUKEE -- Host Alverno College was swept 3-0 by visiting Concordia University Wisconsin, spoiling the Inferno's Homecoming match tonight at Reiman Gymnasium in Milwaukee.
The Falcons dominated the Inferno (1-16, 0-7 Northern Athletics Conference) in the first set, 25-9, as the Inferno had a match-low -.100 attack percentage with nine attack errors.
Alverno got closer in the second set, 25-14, and made things interesting in the third and final set, a 25-20 loss. The Inferno led 15-13 before the Falcons (17-6, 7-1 NAC) rallied for five straight points to take the 18-15 led. The Inferno would get as close as two after that, but the Falcons pulled away for the set and match victory.
The win gave CUW head coach Joe Cawley his 200th career victory in his 12th season with the school.
The Inferno were led on both sides of the net by freshman Chelsea Gulbronson (Milwaukee/Pius XI) with match-highs of eight kills and 12 digs. Her 12 digs also ties her season and career-highs that she just set on Tuesday.
Junior setter Ashley Graham (Cudahy, Wis.) had a match-high 20 assists, the third time this season she has hit or passed that mark in a match.
The Inferno begin a five match road trip with a NAC match at Wisconsin Lutheran College tomorrow morning at 11 a.m.
