Box Score 2 MILWAUKEE -- Alverno College had two of its better offensive performances of the season, but was unable to come up with its first home win of the season losing to Maranatha Baptist Bible College and Moody Bible Institute today at Reiman Gymnasium in Milwaukee.
The Inferno (1-14, 0-5 Northern Athletics Conference) had their third-best attack percentage of the season in a 3-0 (25-10, 25-13, 25-18) loss to Moody (11-4). The Inferno recorded 19 kills on 95 attempts for a .053 attack percentage--just the sixth time the team has had a positive attack percentage this season.
Morgan Stuckey (Duncanville, Texas) and Chelsea Gulbronson (Milwaukee/Pius XI) led Alverno's attack with eight and five kills, respectively.
Defensively Kellee Laske (Milwaukee/Pius XI) recorded 12 digs, reaching double-digits for the third time this season while also tying her career-high.
Earlier in the day versus Maranatha (9-8, 1-3) in a NAC match the Inferno offense had 21 kills, just the fifth time this season they have reached the 20-kill-plateau. Stuckey had a team-high seven kills, Laske chipped in six and Gulbronson had four. Stuckey also had a match-high three service aces to lead the Inferno with 10 points.
Unfortunately Maranatha's Torey DeLozier connected on .600 of her attacks to lead the Crusaders to the 3-0 (25-17, 25-11, 25-18) sweep of the Inferno.
Setter Ashley Graham (Cudahy, Wis.) had 33 assists on the day, surpassing 200 career assists and moving up to sixth all-time in the Alverno record book with 220.
Freshman Jordan Nickelatti (Genoa, Wis./De Soto) had a team-high eight digs for Alverno in the match.
Maranatha defeated Moody the other match, a five-set thriller 3-2 (25-9, 25-19, 20-25, 23-25, 15-12).
The Inferno will look to win for their first home match of the season in a pair of NAC matches next week at Reiman Gymnasium. They host Benedictine University on Tuesday, Oct. 5, and then Concordia University Wisconsin on Friday, Oct. 8, in the school's homecoming game. Both matches will begin at 7 p.m.
