Inferno swept by Spartans, remain winless in NAC

AURORA, Ill. -- The host Spartans of Aurora University swept the visiting Inferno of Alverno College 3-0 (25-, 16, 25-14, 25-22) down in Aurora, Ill., tonight.

Prior to the match, both teams were winless in NAC play combining for a 0-17 conference record. However it was the Spartans (4-22, 1-8 NAC) that left the Inferno standing alone without a mark in the win column, connecting for 35 kills and a .234 attack percentage for the victory.

The Inferno (1-19, 0-10) managed only 17 kills and a -.095 attack percentage, but defensively managed a season-high 51 digs and 3.0 total team blocks. Morgan Stuckey (Duncanville, Texas) and Ashley Graham (Cudahy, Wis.) led the defense with 12 and 11 digs, respectively.

Stuckey was also one of three Inferno players with five kills, as fellow rookies Kellee Laske (Milwaukee/Pius XI) and Chelsea Gulbronson (Milwaukee/Pius XI) helped in the attack.

Alverno is next in action this Friday, playing in a pair of matches at MSOE. The Inferno will take on the host Raiders at 4 p.m. and then take on Lake Forest College at 8 p.m.
