PLYMOUTH, Wis. -- The Alverno College women's volleyball team opened its season with a pair of nonconference matches at the Lakeland College Muskie Classic against very strong competition, resulting in 3-0 losses to both host Lakeland and St. Norbert College on Friday night.

The Inferno struggled to match their opponents on offense in both contests, falling 25-10, 25-14 and 25-4 in their first match with Lakeland, while the Green Knights also overtook the Inferno in three sets, 25-8, 25-8 and 25-12.

Freshman middle blocker Rachel Diedrich (Two Rivers, Wis.) led the offense for Alverno against the Muskies with five kills, while sophomore outside hitter Ashley Graham (Cudahy, Wis.) anchored the back row with four digs.

The Inferno will continue tournament play at Lakeland tomorrow with two more matches, facing off against UW-Superior and Ripon College. Match times are set for 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.
