Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- The Alverno College softball team snapped a five game losing streak on Friday with a sweep over host Concordia University Chicago in a Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader, 10-2 and 5-3.

The Inferno (6-20, 4-16 NAC) exploded for nine runs in the first two innings of the first game, led by Andrea Spindler's (Greendale, Wis.) second homerun of the season to lead off the second inning. Spindler hit 3-for-4 with a game-high three RBI in the game. Senior centerfielder Melissa Bankenbush (Franksville, Wis./Union Grove) hit 2-for-4 with two runs, while freshman second baseman Andrea Derrick (Greenfield, Wis.) also recorded two hits while scoring and knocking in a run.

Senior catcher Rebecca Schmid (Tigerton, Wis.) recorded two RBI and a hit on four at-bats.

Junior pitcher Jessica Goetz (Milwaukee, Wis./Greendale Martin Luther) recorded 10 strikeouts and allowed two runs, both unearned, in her fifth victory of the season.

The game ended after six innings with the 10-2 score due to the eight-run rule.

In game two the Inferno again jumped out to an early lead scoring two runs to begin the game, but would give one back in the bottom of the opening inning on a throwing error.

After a scoreless second inning, Concordia Chicago (7-24, 5-14) would outscore the Inferno 2-1 in the third to even the score at 3-3.

Megan Burgess's (Racine, Wis./Park) single to left field in the fourth would score two runs for the final 5-3 score. Burgess would go 3-for-3 in the game with a game-high three RBI, while Bankenbush would record her second multiple-hit game of the day with a 2-for-3 effort.

Goetz recorded the decision again in game two for her sixth win of the season, recording 10 strikeouts and one earned run. She has now surpassed her single-season strikeout record at Alverno with 143 strikeouts in 2009, four more than last year's record of 139.

The Inferno's NAC doubleheader at MSOE on Saturday has been rained out, but they are still scheduled to host Rockford College on Sunday at noon in a conference doubleheader.
