Inferno Volleyball falls to Benedictine, 3-0

Box Score

LISLE, Ill. -- The Alverno College women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 Northern Athletics Conference match to Benedictine University on Tuesday evening on the road.

The Inferno (0-19, 0-6 NAC) were unable to recover after a 25-8 result in the first set essentially knocked the squad out of the running for the remainder of the match. The Eagles went on to take the next two sets, 25-17 and 25-11, to score the match win.

"It all comes down to mental focus, and we just didn't have that tonight," said Alverno head coach Crystal McClure. "We can't get past the first game where we have to play catch-up, and having such a young team where so many people have to play different positions also makes it tough."

Sophomore outside hitter Ashley Graham (Cudahy, Wis.) led the Inferno's attack with four kills, and also tied for defensive leader with sophomore libero Kia Yang (Milwaukee, Wis./Riverside) as both recorded six digs apiece.

The Inferno will continue their NAC schedule with another road match at Concordia University Wisconsin on Friday, Oct. 9.

"CUW will certainly be tough," McClure said. "They return last year's conference Player of the Year (Katie Roessler), and they've got a solid team around her. We'll just have to play tough and continue to learn from exposure to strong teams."

Game time at Concordia Wisconsin is set for 7 p.m. in Mequon, Wis.
