Inferno Volleyball drops road match to Maranatha, 3-0

Box Score

WATERTOWN, Wis. -- The Alverno College women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Maranatha Baptist Bible College in Northern Athletics Conference match play on Saturday, Oct. 3, on the road.

The Inferno (0-18, 0-5 NAC) struggled to find answers to the Crusaders' diverse attack that included 14 service aces. After conceding the first two sets of the match, 25-13, 25-6, Alverno fought more closely with Maranatha in the third set, but it would ultimately result in a 25-18 loss to end the match.

"We're still having trouble breaking out of that negative mentality," said Alverno head coach Crystal McClure. "We have to find a way to get over our mistakes after we make them and not let things continue to roll downhill."

Freshman middle blocker Rachel Diedrich (Two Rivers, Wis.) topped the kills column for the Inferno with six while junior setter Kim Reuter (Franklin, Wis.) and freshman libero Kia Yang (Milwaukee, Wis./Riverside) tied for defensive leader with four digs apiece. Reuter also recorded 11 assists in the match.

Alverno will continue NAC play with another road match on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at Benedictine University.

"It's going to be a tough week of conference matches for us," McClure said, as her squad also plays Concordia University Wisconsin this upcoming week. "They have traditionally been very strong teams, so we're just going to have to play tough and work through them."

Match time with Benedictine is set for 8 p.m. in Lisle, Ill.
