Inferno Volleyball drops NAC match to Marian, 3-0

Box Score

MILWAUKEE -- Faced with a altered starting rotation, the Alverno College women's volleyball team suffered a tough Northern Athletics Conference loss to Marian University, 3-0 (25-12, 25-3, 25-14), in Alverno's Reiman Gymnasium on Wednesday evening.

"We had a new line-up to work with that we only had two days to prepare," said Alverno head coach Crystal McClure. "It takes awhile to get back in the swing of things and make people comfortable in positions they've never played before. Again, we found new things we need to work on tonight."

The Inferno (0-23, 0-9 NAC) had trouble finding their legs on offense throughout the match, and allowed the Sabres' setter Michielah Navis (Waupun, Wis.) to serve for 20 straight points in the second set.

"In the first set we battled and played very well until nine points," McClure said. "Their setter really went on a run with her serving in the second set and almost took the whole set. We have to continue to learn from those types of situations."

Sophomore outside hitter Ashley Graham (Cudahy, Wis.) provided one bright spot for the Inferno, leading the squad's back row with 13 digs. She also topped the offensive chart, recording five kills.

"Ashley played really great defense tonight," McClure said. "She was hustling all over the place and calling the ball."

Sophomore libero Kia Yang (Milwaukee, Wis./Riverside) was also effective in the back with 10 digs to her credit, while junior setter Kim Reuter (Franklin, Wis.) added eight digs and 13 assists.

Alverno will now have a break to work on its new line-up, as the Inferno's next match is not scheduled until next Tuesday, Oct. 20, against Aurora University for a NAC bout.

"Aurora is going to be tough," McClure said. "They're one of the top teams in the league right now. We're just going to have to play hard, just like we always try to do."

Match start time with Aurora is slated for 7 p.m. in Alverno's Reiman Gymnasium.
