Inferno Volleyball Falls to Strong Lakeland College Squad

Box Score

MILWAUKEE -- The Alverno College women's volleyball team struggled through its Northern Athletics Conference match with a hard-hitting Lakeland College squad, falling 3-0 on Wednesday, Oct. 15, at home in Milwaukee, Wis.

The Inferno (2-20, 0-8 NAC) posted their high for match points in the third set with a 25-13 defeat to improve from heavier losses in the opening sets of the match that resulted in 25-7 and 25-10 losses in the first two sets, respectively.

Freshman outside hitter Alicia Kontowski (South Milwaukee, Wis.) led the Inferno at the net with four kills while senior outside hitter/middle blocker Rebecca Schmid (Tigerton, Wis.) directed the backcourt with eight digs followed by freshman outside hitter Ashley Graham (Cudahy, Wis.) with six digs.

"I thought we played great defense tonight and were smart," said Alverno head coach Crystal McClure. "We know what we need to do in general on the court, we just have to fine-tune it from here on out."

Although the Inferno put up a tough front on defense, the squad just couldn't hang with the diverse offense of the Muskies (16-5, 9-0 NAC), who hit nearly .400 as a team for the match to remain undefeated in league play so far this season.

Alverno will continue NAC match play at home with Dominican University on Tuesday, Oct. 21. Match time is set for 7 p.m. in Milwaukee, Wis.
