MILWAUKEE -- The Alverno College women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-21) Northern Athletics Conference match loss to Rockford College on Saturday, Oct. 11, at home in Milwaukee, Wis.
The Inferno (2-18, 0-6 NAC) built a 15-11 lead in the third set thanks to a few solid defensive plays that capitalized on mistakes by Rockford (6-11, 4-3 NAC). However, the Regents mounted a five-point serving run to regain the lead and eventually clinch the 25-21 victory to close out the match.
"Things were very close in the third set, we just couldn't finish it," said Alverno head coach Crystal McClure. "We really came together as a team today, and this has been the first match that has really shown that. Defensively we were awesome, but they put up a good block and we haven't seen that in awhile so that was where we struggled."
Senior middle blocker/outside hitter Rebecca Schmid (Tigerton, Wis.) led the Inferno on both offense and defense with nine kills and 10 digs. Freshman outside hitter Ashley Graham (Cudahy, Wis.) also contributed in the backcourt with nine digs.
The Inferno will continue NAC match play with Lakeland College, who currently has the best record in the league, on Wednesday, Oct. 15.
"We know that we can play hard, but we need to pull through and play harder," McClure said. "Lakeland is definitely going to be a tough match, but all we can do is go in and fight and play our hardest."
Match time with Lakeland is set for 7 p.m.
