Duckworth enters his ninth season as Alverno's head basketball coach and Director of Athletics, and third as the Inferno's head golf coach.
He captured his 100th career coaching victory on January 18, 2011, in an 82-69 victory over crosstown rival Mount Mary College.
Duckworth led the basketball team to its best finish in school history in 2014, posting a 19-9 record, including a 14-6 record in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. The victories, both overall and conference, broke school records for most in a season, surpassing the record marks his Inferno squad set in 2013. The Inferno qualified for the NACC women's basketball tournament for the third time in school history and advanced to the tournament championship game with a pair of overtime victories in the first two rounds.
When Duckworth came to Alverno in 2007, he inherited a team that posted only two wins the prior season, and in his first year with the team, Alverno garnered a 5-20 record. In his second season, the team posted double-digit wins for the first time, compiling an 11-14 record, 6-12 in the NAC, just missing out on the postseason tournament.
Prior to his tenure at Alverno, the Necedah, Wis., native got his start in coaching women's basketball at his alma mater, the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, serving as a student assistant coach from 1997-2000 and returning as an assistant coach from 2006-07. He also spent four years as the head women's basketball coach at State University of New York-New Paltz from 2002-06. While at New Paltz, he coached the team to the second-longest win streak in school history and two postseason bids.
From 2000-02, Duckworth helped lead the women's basketball program at Western Wisconsin Technical College (now Western Technical College) to a pair of undefeated seasons in league play as the head coach in 2000-01 and 2001-02. Those teams also blazed a trail into school history, winning the program's first two conference championships and placing third in 2001 and again in 2002 in Region IV of the NJCAA. He also coached the school's first two All-Americans and notched the best national finish in school history.
Duckworth received his bachelor's degree in sport management and his master's in sport administration from UW-La Crosse. He recently earned a second master's degree, a MBA, at Alverno.
