Tony Kathrens joins the Alverno basketball staff for his first season in 2022-23.
Kathrens joins the staff after more than two decades in numerous roles at nearby Franklin High School, including nine seasons as the head varsity basketball coach in which he compiled 157 wins over that span.
During his time as head coach, he led the team to an eight second-place finishes in the Southeast Conference, and also won five regional titles and reached one sectional semifinal.
Before becoming varsity head coach, he worked within the program as both a junior varsity coach as well as an assistant with the varsity program.
Away from his time at Franklin High School, Kathrens was the Director of Metro South Girls Basketball, which was a league he created for girls in fourth through eighth grade for the better part of two decades from 2003-2020.
Kathrens is retired from both the Federal Service and the United State Air Force Reserve. He is married to his wife Sheryl, and has one daughter Abby, who graduated from Alverno in 2012. Abby is married to Chris, with their two twin children, Emma and Mia.
