Heather Sanderson

Former Division I softball player Heather Sanderson wrapped-up her second season on the Alverno softball staff following the 2020 season.

During her second season with the team, Sanderson's pitching staff struck out 63 batters including 34 from freshman Seneca Peterson, who ended the abbreviated season with a 0.83 earned run average. As a team, the Inferno had wins in four of its 10 games.

In her first season with the Inferno, Sanderson handled acting head coaching responsibilities during the interim period between Alverno's full-time hirees. Upon returning to her role as assistant, Sanderson was primarily responsible for the team's pitching staff which saw the four-player staff amass 130 strikeouts over 247 2/3 innings worth of work, while also assisting in part-time pitchers Sam Korn and Natalie Akin hone their craft. The team struck out 3.67 batters per seven innings, which was seventh best amongst NACC programs.

Sanderson came to Alverno following a one-year stint at Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin, where she served as the team’s pitching coach. In addition, she also served as an athletic administrator in the area during her time in the area. During her time at Northland, Sanderson was selected to receive a Division III grant where she served the department as an administrative assistant, aided in a game management, and was also the co-advisor to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

In the summer of 2016, Sanderson was a human resources intern for the Green Bay Bullfrogs Baseball Club of the Northwoods League, and assisted in many facets of the organization. She has also volunteered at numerous camps and clinics following her collegiate career.

Originally from Michigan, Sanderson chose to attend Division I Wisconsin-Green Bay as a pitcher for the Phoenix. As a freshman she started 12 games and won six decisions while posting a 3.60 earned run average as she struck out 64 batters; and ultimately was named to the Horizon League All-Freshman team. She followed that up with a team-best nine wins in 21 starts as the team’s primary starting pitcher as she struck out 91 batters over 122 innings.

After her two-year stint with Green Bay, Sanderson transferred to Northwestern Ohio in the NAIA, where she continued her pitching dominance earning 35 wins in two seasons with 175 strikeouts over 338 1/3 innings while posting a 3.19 earned run average in that span.

She was a Dean’s List student-athlete, earning the academic distinction throughout her time in college, following her induction into the National Honor Society in high school.

Sanderson graduated from Northwestern Ohio with a degree in Sport Marketing and Management.
