Tim Hanson returns to Alverno for his eighth season overall, and fourth season during his second term as head cross country coach in 2021.
In the COVID-19 shortened 2020-21 academic year, the cross country team competed in just two races, including the 2020 NACC Championships in March 2021. During the 2020 NACC Championships, both of Alverno's entries registered career-best times as junior Dom Hudson and freshman Courtney Zarda improved on their collegiate-best times.
During his sixth season as head coach in 2019, Hanson helped lead the team to a 12th place finish at the season-concluding NACC Conference Championship meet hosted by Wisconsin Lutheran at nearby Greenfield Park. The Inferno faced tough course conditions as the team amassed a team score of 349.
In his fifth year as head coach during the 2018 season, the team took 11th at the NACC Championships with a team score of 323, which was the best team score in a four-year span for the cross country program.
Hanson had previously coached the team from the 2006 season through the 2009 season. In Hanson’s final year with the team, the Inferno had one of its top finishes in program history at the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Championship, finishing eighth, while posting 181 points at the meet.
For the 2016 and 2017 seasons, Hanson was at nearby UW-Waukesha, where he served as the head coach for the men’s and women’s cross country programs. Before his initial stop at Alverno, he volunteered at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin with the men’s cross country program for the 2003-04 seasons.
Away from his cross country experiences, Hanson has served as a teacher at numerous nearby schools and is currently at the Evergreen Academy in Racine as a physical education teacher. He also had teaching stints in the Racine School District and at St. Edward’s School.
A two-sport athlete at UW-River Falls, Hanson was a four-year member of the Falcon cross country team, including a run at the 1990 NAIA National Cross Country Championships. He was also a two-year member of the track team at River Falls.
Hanson earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education in 1993 from UW-River Falls, and later went on to earn his Master’s Degree in Physical Education from Emporia State University in Kansas.
Hanson currently resides in Racine, Wisconsin with his wife Ann and two children; Sophie and Morgan.
