Ripon, WI- Less than one week ago, the Alverno Volleyball team fell in an exciting five set match to Eureka College. Once again on Wednesday, the Inferno went the distance, this time at Ripon College. And unfortunately, once again they were on a losing side of a tough five set match, falling to Ripon 25-16, 19-25, 25-20, 22-25 and 15-6.
The match was the literal definition of a back and forth affair, with the two teams alternating victories set by set. After falling in set one, the Inferno rose up and took set two by a score of 25-19. The Red Hawks of Ripon took the third, but as has been their pattern this season, Alverno would not give up as they took the 4th by a score of 25-20. Just one set away from an impressive road triumph, things did not go the way of the Inferno from that point forward. Ripon took the fifth set and ended the match.
Mary Needham (San Tan Valley, AZ) was a force at the net once again for Alverno, scoring 19 kills.
Beyonca Hereford (Beloit, WI) played another strong game with 22 assists and
Brooklynne Hereford (Beloit, WI) added 20 digs.
Carley Juneau (Milwaukee, WI) had a strong all around match for the Inferno with 12 assists and 10 digs.
The Alverno squad will be spending the weekend in action in the state of Iowa. Friday they will take on the Duhawks of Loras College, followed by a pair of matches against Central College and Grinnell College on Saturday.
