Lake Forest, IL- Coming off two wins in their last three matches, the Alverno College volleyball team took on Eureka College in their first match of the Lake Forest College Invitational on Friday evening.
The Match was an exciting contest of runs made by both teams, in the end Eureka pulled out the fifth set to take the match over Alverno.Â
Things did not start out the way the Inferno had hoped, Eureka took the first two sets by scores of 25-21 and 25-14.  Alverno once again showed the fight and toughness that seems to be becoming their trademark thus far in the 2026 season. Set three saw the Inferno storm away for a 25-13 win, which they would follow up with a 25-19 win in the 4th set to even the match.
In the decisive 5th set, the Red Devils of Eureka were slightly better, taking the set by a 15-9 score to win the back and forth neutral site match up.
Statistically,
Mary Needham (San Tan Valley, AZ) continued her stellar play at the net, she totaled 14 kills and 4 blocks.Â
Jayden Koziol (Willowbrook, IL) and
Mina Pryor (Lawrenceville, GA) also had four blocks for the Inferno. Â
Other statistical standouts were
Beyonca Hereford (Beloit, WI) with 28 assists and
Brooklynne Hereford (Beloit, WI)Â with 27 digs.
The Inferno will not have to wait long to try and get back on the winning track, Saturday they will play two matches at Lake Forest College. Alverno will take on the host Foresters at 10 am, and Illinois Institute of Technology at 12 pm.
