MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Alverno College golf team will begin its five-match, 2026 fall campaign this coming Wednesday, Sept.2 at the Judson Invite. First-year head coach Erik Brooks and second-year assistant and team alum Avery Maxwell will lead the program into its 14th season of competition, as the lone Alverno team remaining in the Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference (NACC) as an affiliate member.

"Our biggest goal this season is to be playing our best golf as a team and individually by the end of the season," said Brooks. "We want to continue improving throughout the year, building confidence, and learning from every round. As a team, we hope to support and push each other to reach our full potential while creating a positive and competitive environment. Most importantly, we want to finish the season knowing that we gave our best effort and grew both as golfers and as a team."

"The Alverno Golf Team's biggest strengths heading into this season will be our commitment to the game, our willingness to improve, and our growth as a team. We have a strong group of returning players who bring experience, leadership, and knowledge of the game. They will play an important role in helping guide and encourage the team throughout the season. We are also excited about our newcomers, who bring fresh energy, determination, and promising potential. As the season progresses, we hope to see each player grow in confidence and skill while learning from one another," said the team's head coach.

Two of their top three golfers return from a year ago in senior Michelle Hess (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) and sophomore Yazmin Fernandez-Chavez (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI Catholic), and Hess will be counted upon to lead the young team as the captain this year and help build a strong culture.

"We will seek a culture focused the following attributes: Positive, team-first, supportive, inclusive. We will work hard and have plenty of fun along the way, while giving back to our community," stated Brooks.
The team will have five fall matches and will compete in the Spring as well, with dates to be announced at a later date.

Returning Student-Athletes
Hess will begin her final season on the Inferno after a strong 2025-26 campaign that saw her finish second on the team in scoring average and post three of the best four scores of the season, with her career-best score of 116 in the second round of the NACC Championship tying for the season best.

Fernandez-Chavez will look to build upon the improvements she made last year, culminating in a season-best score in the team's lone spring competition last April.

Incoming Student-Athletes
Three freshmen join the Inferno this year, as Ash Eldridge (Kenosha, Wis./Indian Trail), Lilly Fisher (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom Township), and May Wendelberger (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wauwatosa East) make up the 2026 recruiting class.

Schedule
The Inferno opens its 2026 season at the Judson University Invite on Wednesday, Sept. 2, competing at Pinecrest Country Club in Huntley, Illinois. They next compete on Wednesday, Sept. 16 at the Benedictine University Fall Invite, competing at St. Andrew's Golf & Country Club, previewing the 2026 NACC Championship. They next compete at the Midwest Region Classic at Brighton Dale Golf Course on Friday, Sept. 25 and Saturday, Sept. 26 in their final match before championships.

The 2026 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Women's Golf Championships will be held Saturday-Monday, Oct. 3-5, 2026, at St. Andrews Golf and Country Club in West Chicago, Illinois. The tournament champion will receive the NACC's automatic berth in the 2027 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships, slated for May 11-14, 2027, at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Virginia.

The Fall season wraps up for the Inferno on Saturday, Oct. 24 and Sunday, Oct. 25 at the Prairie Fire Invitational, as they travel to Galesburg, Illinois and Soangetaha Country Club hosted by Knox.
