MILWAUKEE, Wis. - As a part of the 2026 Division III Week from April 6-12, Alverno College Athletics will be unveiling a new Q&A each day during the week to highlight some of the student-athletes at Alverno who embody the ideals of a Division III student-athlete. Our sixth and final day features volleyball freshman Leilani Curtis.

Q: Why Division III?
I chose Division III because I wanted to play volleyball at the next level, but still be able to balance my social, academic, and athletic life and responsibilities.

Q: What is your favorite part about being a Division III student-athlete?
I think my favorite thing about being a Division III athlete is getting to play at the next level, but not have it be my whole life, still having time to do other things, and balance myself.

Q: What core values do you associate with being a Division III student-athlete?
Time management, tough-minded, determined, and patient.

Q: Do you find it challenging to balance athletics and academics?
If you stay consistent, are good at time management, and don't procrastinate, then balancing the two at this level is not hard. Personally, I struggle with this a little bit, but even I am able to do it!

Q: In one word, how would you describe being a student-athlete?
Disciplined

Q: What is the most rewarding aspect of being a Division III student-athlete?
The most rewarding part is being able to still play the sport I love at the next level while continuing my education. I think Division III sports allow you to balance everything well.

Q: What has been your favorite moment here at Alverno, either as a student or as an athlete?
Most definitely traveling with my team, whether that be a drive or a plane ride, it's always fun, playing games, laughing, spending time together, new experiences, and so much more!

Q: What does it mean to you to represent Alverno on and off the field, court, etc.?
It means being level-headed, being someone who is committed and dedicated, giving it my all on and off the court, and holding myself to high standards.
