MADISON, Wis. – The Alverno College volleyball team hit the road for its final midweek away match of the regular season on Thursday evening, falling to Edgewood University in straight sets (25-9, 25-5, 25-12) inside the Todd Wehr Edgedome.
Senior
Sharisty Kooch (Terrebonne, Ore./Redmond) led the way for the Inferno with 10 assists and added three digs in the match. Freshman
Holly King (Richland Center, Wis./Ithaca) was the team leader with seven digs on Thursday night, leading the team with three kills and four points, as she also tallied a service ace.
As a team, Alverno finished with four total blocks and were able to limit their attack errors as the game went on. Edgewood, however, showed an incredibly efficient attack, committing just seven errors for a .422 hitting percentage.
With the result, Alverno moves to 3-20 overall and 0-10 in NACC play, while Edgewood improved to 20-6 (11-0 NACC). The Inferno will return home on Saturday, Nov. 1, hosting Rockford University in NACC action at noon for Senior Day, honoring seniors
Sharisty Kooch and
Breann Flannery (Argyle, Wis./Argyle) following the conclusion of the game.
The Inferno battled throughout the night, putting together several strong defensive stretches while facing the NACC's defending champion, who has yet to lose a conference game this year. Alverno found its rhythm early in the third set behind steady play from capitalizing on the few Edgewood mistakes, but the Eagles' efficient attack proved too much down the stretch as they swept the Inferno in the midweek battle.
Nida Zukauskaite led all players with seven kills on just eight attempts, also adding two service aces. Katie Borchert had six kills for Edgewood, Kate Gunderson tallied four service aces and seven assists, and Abbey Eivins led all players with 11 assists.
