MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Alverno Volleyball team was back in action on Saturday afternoon, taking part in a non-conference match against Ripon College on the road and falling in three sets.
Alverno was led by junior
Rolin West, who had 14 kills on the night to go along with 11 digs for a double-double performance. Defensively,
Sharisty Kooch had 13 digs on the afternoon.
Alverno got off to a slow start, falling in the opening set by a 25-17 score. The Inferno took a 3-2 lead with a kill by
Rolin West, but the Red Hawks then advanced its score by running away with the lead taking set one 25-17.
In the second set Ripon took control early before
Rolin West securing a kill. Alverno then cut the lead 18-12 on another kill by
Rolin West. Ripon rattled off additional points before Alverno scored two points to trim the deficit to 14-23 before Ripon won 25-14.
Alverno's best set of the night came with a 20-point effort in the third set, which saw Alverno collect a service error to knot the early score at six. The Inferno then cut the lead at 12-10 on a kill by
Elyse Kozikowski before the Red Hawks grew the lead up 20-12. The Inferno cut the deficit to four but were unable to close the gap any further as the Red Hawks won the third set, 25-20.
Alverno (2-3) will be back in action on the road Wednesday night as the Inferno will visit Lawrence University for a 7 p.m. start.
