MILWAUKEE – The Alverno volleyball team competed in their final match of the season in a conference match-up against Marian University.
The Sabers of Marian led the first set, holding a strong lead throughout and winning the set 25-8. The second set saw a comeback by the Inferno, keeping within 3 points throughout the set. Ultimately, the Sabers secured the second set, winning it, 25-22. With their momentum pushing forward, the Sabers won the third set, 25-14, and winning the overall match.
Although the outcome was not what the Inferno had hoped for in their final match, the team did not go out without a fight. Offensively Senior Rolin West had 20 kills, along with 1 ace, along with 1 block and 8 digs. Senior Izzy Gianniou aided on the offensive side with 20 assists, as well as 3 kills. Junior Sharisty Kooch had 13 digs and 1 kill.
As it was their final match of the season, the Inferno honored seniors, West and Gianniou, and their amazing 4-year careers. West competed in 91 total matches, had 1,233 kills, 95 assists, 117 aces, 1,006 digs, 24 solo blocks, 37 block assists, and collected 1,393 points. Gianniou competed in 78 matches played, had 97 kills, 1,057 assists, 66 aces, 409 digs, 5 block assists, and collected 167 points. Both West and Gianniou had personal career highs, West hitting over 1,000 kills and Gianniou reaching over 1,000 assists.
